Most people arrested for DUI in North County are taken to the Vista Detention Facility at 325 South Melrose Drive — the Sheriff’s primary intake jail for the northern half of the county. For a routine first DUI you can usually expect to be released within hours once you’ve sobered, with a citation or release paperwork listing your arraignment date at the North County Regional Center next door.
Three things to do with that paperwork: don’t lose it (the arraignment date on it is real, even if the case hasn’t been filed yet); count 10 days from the arrest date — that’s your window to request the DMV hearing that protects your license; and photograph everything you were handed before it gets crumpled in a pocket.
